The global water and sanitation crisis is real. Some have asserted that the water problem ranks ahead of climate change, extreme weather events, food crises and social instability. Half a billion people worldwide do not have improved water supplies. Two billion do not have improved sanitation. People in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are among the most affected.
